Birthday, anniversary, indie-celebration

A year ago, we finally took action and started this blog. It was born as an idea in early July, but . . . perhaps we were shy. Who knows. The timing was right.

We didn’t expect the site to take off as fast and as, well, breathtaking as it did. We grew exponentially from the beginning.

Simply put, indiegainesville was born out of a desire to create a space where independent Gainesville businesses could be promoted, supported. We also had a deep desire to help Gainesville residents stay in the know and connect them with our beloved, treasured local businesses.

We wanted to give independent business owners a unique voice in politics. So often indie businesses must join groups with non-indie businesses, and the voices and concerns of owners of the local businesses aren’t heard.

But most of all, we wanted to celebrate all the places, people, businesses, events, and so on that make Gainesville unique in an unquantifiable way.

None of our “success” (we’re talking 2 million—yes, million—hits in the past year!) would have been possible without such a supportive community; through the ups and downs, we are sure that indiegainesville is community of beautiful, ethical people—and you who believe in the indiegainesville mission.

(“You like us, you really like us!”)

And so, on our “birthday” (aka, anniversary) we toast you.

Now, for the major question: How to celebrate? A pillow fight? Meet up at a local restaurant for drinks? Ice cream at Sweet Dreams? Let us know what you’d like to see by e-mailing us or commenting. We’d love to meet you.

Again, we offer you our most humble thanks. indiegainesville is truly a remarkable, unique, and amazing place to live.

We love our community.

And here’s to an even better year!
